Course Curriculum

 

Course Description:

Life Science is the study of living things.  This class is a introductory biological science course that introduces basic life science concepts through inquiry labs, models, and hands-on activities.  Students will expand scientific vocabulary, improve reading skills, and enhance writing proficiency.

Life- introduction to life science, study of life science, cells, taxonomy 

Cells- Cell Theory, the history of cells, all of the cellular organelles, and why cells are an import structure in living organisms

Viruses, Bacteria, Protoctists, and Fungi- the structure, types, reproduction, functions,

and uses of viruses, bacteria, protoctists, and fungi

Plants- introduction to plants (types, needs, structure), life processes of plants

(reproduction, hormones, behavior)

Animals- simple invertebrates and echinoderms, arthropods, vertebrates

The Human Body- organization; nutrition; digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory,

excretory, musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, reproductive, and immune systems;

disease; drugs

Genetics and Heredity-  Mendal, heredity (traits, reproduction and inheritance, variations, DNA,

genes, mutations, mitosis and meiosis, karyotyping, genetics), applications of genetics
